What Should You Choose?
One of the most important decisions in pointe shoe fitting is shank strength. It affects stability, control and performance.
The shank is the internal support structure of the pointe shoe.
Soft shank
-Easier break-in
-More flexibility
-Better for flexible feet
-Wears out faster
-Less support
Hard shank
-Strong support
-Longer lifespan
-Better stability
-Harder break-in
-Can feel restrictive
Depends on:
-Foot strength
-Ankle control
-Training load
-Technique
-Not strictly beginner vs advanced.
Choosing soft shoes too early reduces stability and increases injury risk.
